The iRacing team have teased the addition of two new IMSA GTP cars to the service, but which GTP machines could they be?

WATCH: Which Two IMSA GTP Cars Are Coming To iRacing?

On August 5th, iRacing teased the arrival of two new IMSA GTP cars to the service, joining the Cadillac V-Series.R and the BMW M Hybrid V8.

Given the timing of this teaser, we anticipate they’ll be added at the start of Season 4 – but out of all the IMSA GTP machines yet to make their debut on iRacing, which cars could these be?

Let’s dive into all of the possibilities, and which cars we’re most likely to see!

Acura ARX-06

Debuting in 2023, and with a chassis created by Oreca, the Acura ARX-06 runs a 2.4L V6 turbo-hybrid motor, and has scored two wins so far this year; at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, and at the 24 Hours of Daytona.

As a car finding a lot of success, you would anticipate it’d be a shoe-in for iRacing, however, as far as we could tell, to date, no cars with Oreca chassis have made their way into iRacing, although they have been seen in games such as rFactor 2.

We’ll give the Acura ARX-06 a likelihood score of 3/10.

    Porsche 963

    Powered by a 4.6L V8 turbo-hybrid, and with a chassis from Multimatic, the Porsche 963 has scored a win at Long Beach in IMSA this year, plus a podium at the 6 Hours of Portimao in the WEC.

    iRacing and Porsche have a long-standing relationship, with the Porsche Esports Supercup having run since 2019, and Porsche’s electric concept car, the Mission R, being added this time last year.

    Most importantly however, Porsche’s previous top-level prototype, the 919 LMP1, came to the service way back in March 2018, so we believe it’s highly likely that the German marquee would want their newest prototype machine in the game too.

    We’ll give the Porsche 963 a likelihood score of 9/10.

      Alpine A424

      Expected to debut in 2024, and based on a next-generation LMP2 chassis from Oreca, the Alpine A424 sees the French manufacturer return to prototype racing using a heavily modified Mecachrome V634 engine – a 3.4L V6 turbo currently used in Formula 2.

      As another Oreca-built machine, we believe it’s rather unlikely it’ll be one of the two new GTP machines, but Alpine are always looking to capture the motoring world’s attention, and debuting their upcoming prototype through iRacing would certainly be one way of doing that.

      We’ll give the Alpine A424 a likelihood score of 4/10.

        Lamborghini SC63

        Also debuting in 2024, and with a chassis from Ligier, the Lamborghini SC63 sports a V8 twin-turbo hybrid, and is aiming to run in both IMSA and the WEC next year.

        Only one Lambo currently exists in iRacing – the Huracán GT3 EVO – however Ligier’s LMP3 machine, the JS P320, entered the service just a few months ago, and with iRacing’s current multiclass push, the lack of Lamborghini’s in the service, and a relationship with Ligier already established, all signs point to the SC63 being a likely newcomer.

        We’ll give the Lamborghini SC63 a likelihood score of 8/10.

          Other Hypercars?

          Now that prototype regulations are unified across the World Endurance Championship and IMSA, Le Mans Hypercar machines – such as the Toyota GR010 Hybrid, the Peugeot 9X8, and the 2023 Le Mans-winning Ferrari 499P – are now eligible to compete in both series.

          Only one car is currently active in both the WEC and IMSA, that being the Porsche 963, but several other WEC manufacturers have confirmed that they’re considering an IMSA entry in 2024.

          Could we see the Toyota, Peugeot or Ferrari? Or perhaps the Glickenhaus SCG 007 LMH, the Vanwall Vandervell 680, or the upcoming Isotta Fraschini Tipo 6 LMH-C?

          Our verdict? As these cars aren’t currently racing in IMSA, it’s unlikely for any of them to be one of these two new GTP cars, so we’ll give them all a likelihood score of 1/10 this time around – but could we see some of these Hypercars arrive in future as IMSA’s 2024 field is confirmed? Now that’s an exciting prospect!
